I was watching previews of the new show Real Housewives of New Jersey (don’t judge.) and I thought of a story.

It was a family trip. My family and I were driving to Canada… from Georgia. Obviously, since it was a long drive, we decided to make stops along the way. One of these stops involved visiting one of my step-mom’s friends in Pennsylvania. We hung out with her for a while and then we decided to go tubing on the Pennsylvania river.

We drove for a while to reach the river. We get dropped off at the river (abandoned!!) with our tubes and we all get into the water, after a few coordination problems. We were in the water and we realized that we were hardly moving. An hour or two passed and we are still (almost) in the same spot. We didn’t think much of it until a large black cloud started to appear in the sky.

“Maybe we should call someone?” My step-mom’s friend’s cellphone (that was in a ziplock bag) was water logged, therefore unusable. We were in a river, not moving, and there was a storm coming. Great.

More time passed and the storm was getting worse… and we were still not moving. We looked to the other side of the river and our friend realized that she knew someone that lived just a bit upriver on the other side, and we should go there so that we could get out of the water (/storm!!).

And then the paddling began. We paddled, and paddled, and paddled until we reached the other side. Somehow we knew the person that lived in the house that we stopped at (small world, right?), and we finally step on some solid ground. We called someone to come pick us up, and we made it hope safely… in the typhoon rain/lightening storm.

We hardly moved down that river, but ya know where we ended up? New Jersey. We got out of the river in New Jersey.

That’s the connection. 🙂

Wait — is that a real story? Crossing, what, the Delaware River in a tube? No way.
